How It Works
Starting October 7, 2025, anyone can refer a qualified business owner through our official referral form.
The incentives are simple and attractive:
$1,000 upfront when the owner publicly lists their business
10% of Baton's success fee (avg. ~6%) when the deal closes
That means you earn guaranteed cash upfront and share in the upside when the business sells. On average, payouts have been around $10,000 per referral.
Once your referral signs up, we’ll notify you via email and keep you updated throughout the sales process.
How Much Could You Earn?
There’s no cap on how many owners you can refer and how much you can earn. Your payout scales with the value of your referee’s business. The bigger their sale, the bigger your bonus.
With Baton’s generous payouts, even one referral could mean tens of thousands in your pocket. Here’s what that might look like:
On average, Baton referrers earn $10,000+ per referral, and many have earned even more by sharing multiple business opportunities. *The success fee varies by plan, but it is typically 6% of the sale price.
Who Can You Refer?
You’re welcome to refer any business owner who meets the eligibility criteria for our program. Baton works with companies from $50K to $25M+ in value, across nearly every industry. By referring an owner, you’re helping them access a smoother, more transparent sale and getting rewarded for it.
To qualify for referral rewards, the business must:
Generate at least $100K in annual revenue (past 12 months)
Successfully sells within 2 years of signing up
Pay all required Baton fees
Not have previously joined the Baton platform
If they don’t meet the criteria, you can still refer them and we will happily offer them a free valuation. However, referral rewards may not apply.
Frequently Asked Questions
When will I get paid? You’ll earn:
$1,000 USD once your referral signs a sale agreement and goes live on our website (paid within 10 business days), and
10% of the closing fee once their acquisition is finalized and payment has been received.
Timing may vary depending on the deal, but we aim to process rewards within 60 days of all requirements being met.
How do I receive my referral reward? Once your referral qualifies for a reward, our team will follow up with you directly to arrange payment. Payouts can be issued via ACH, wire transfer, bank transfer, or another approved method.
Who am I allowed to refer? You’re welcome to refer any business owner who meets the eligibility criteria for our program - We’ve taken on companies of all sizes, ranging from $50K in value to $25M and up. If they don’t qualify, you can still refer them, but the reward won’t apply. Please review the full referral program terms for more details.
Is there a limit to how many referrals I can send? Nope! There’s no cap on the number of referrals you can make. As long as each referred owner and their business qualify, and they complete a sale within two years, you’re eligible to earn rewards.
Can I refer more than one owner at a time? Absolutely. You can send multiple referrals by emailing your list to referrals@batonmarket.com. Each business will be reviewed individually to ensure they meet the program criteria.
What happens if the referral doesn’t sell? If the business doesn’t complete a sale, no reward is issued. However, you’re always welcome to refer again in the future.
Do I need a Baton account to participate? No account is needed to make a referral. Just submit the owner’s info and we’ll handle the rest.
Can I refer someone who’s already signed up for Baton? To be eligible for rewards, referrals must be new to Baton, meaning they haven’t had an account in the past two years. Existing or recently active users don’t qualify.
What if a deal takes longer than expected? Your referral has up to two years to complete a sale for you to receive the full reward. Our M&A team is here to help them navigate the process and avoid delays.
